METHUEN (MCTV) – The Alliance for Community Media is the professional organization which aims to protect and grow community media in the United States. MCTV’s Executive Director Karen Hayden was recognized with the Alliance for Community Media Northeast’s Chuck Sherwood Leadership Award.

Named after a local visionary who challenged the status quo and pushed for everyone’s access to media, the award is given annually to someone who has been dedicated to the cause. Nominated by current Chair Erica Jones, Karen served as Regional Board Chair for six years.

Karen Hayden served on the ACM Northeast Regional Board to advance the cause of public, government and educational media in New England and New York. In her role, she produced newsletters, hosted successful Conferences and Video Festivals. While fostering greater inclusion in the region, she set up procedures for granting scholarships to individuals and events promoting community media.

Since 2012, Karen has also been a leader in bringing her area colleagues together for producing state election forums for the First Essex Senate seat, 14th and 15th Essex representative races, and the Essex County Sheriff’s election in 2016. She has been MCTV’s Executive Director since November 2002.
